Hey there!
I'm Alex, an Instructional Designer and eLearning Specialist in Charlotte, NC.
I'm Alex, an Instructional Designer and eLearning Specialist in Charlotte, NC.
As an instructional designer, I develop intentional, thoughtful, and effective learning solutions that help teams and individuals meet their goals. I work with subject-matter experts to distill their complex knowledge and skills into a format more accessible to those who need it. As an eLearning specialist, I focus on digital and hybrid solutions, such as web-based courses, virtual instructor-led sessions, and bite-sized videos - but I'm equally comfortable in more traditional training settings.
I worked in public education for 12 years. During that time, I taught 6-12 grade English/Language Arts and several pre-engineering electives for middle schoolers. However, I spent the second half of that time developing supports and resources for both new and experienced teachers in an attempt to help my schools reach their student growth & faculty retention goals. As a result, I'm honored to have held several leadership roles at most of the buildings I've worked in. I have additional experience supporting and managing larger teams of people from my time helping lead the Horseshoe Scout Reservation's summer programs.
Instructional Design work is more than fancy Storyline files and some Canva pdfs. Although I've spent a lot of time developing skills various authoring tools, I'm deeply focused on understanding the core differences between helping adolescents learn how to think and helping adults succeed through learning.
I'm proud to be an alumnus of the Applied Instructional Design Academy, run by Learning Strategy and Design. AIDA is a nine-month training and mentorship program in the ID space that focuses on multiple rounds of feedback and revision on simulated work tasks. Some of the samples found in the portfolio section are from my time in AIDA while others were completed for clients and are reproduced here by permission.
